During my time at Sunbelt Rentals I worked on almost every part of sunbeltrentals.com. The majority of my time however was spent as lead designer on what is known as the “punchout” website. Which is a separate ecommerce site (but closely mirrors the main site) for their large corporate customers like Disney and Amazon.
Process-wise, our workflow was very typical. We began every design sprint with a review of a feature brief with the product managers. Next we would begin work on wireframes and create a prototype if needed. Lastly, the work would be handed to a visual designer, then to the developers.
Features like favorite lists, and integrating real-time product availability data into the PLPs, SLPs, etc, were some of the most interesting and challenging work that I was able to contribute to.
Unlike other roles from my past, Sunbelt designers typically don’t collaborate with other team members. Instead I worked on my own, only showing my work to my manager for approval and feedback. Once approved I always worked closely with development to ensure that they understood the UX, and to make sure that it was properly implemented.
