The evolution of image compression
I’m probably late to the party, but two new tools for compressing images have recently hit my radar.
The first is JPGmini. Which, as you’ve probably guessed, is a new algorithm for squashing JPGs. The second, is Yahoo! Smush it. It seems to accept all kinds of image formats.
Anyhoo, both do a pretty amazing job; shaving an average of 50% off the images I tested (exported from Fireworks CS4). Hopefully both with find their way into Fireworks and Photoshop in the near future.
